Introduction to Wan Shengping

             Wan Shengping, born in Sept.1967, graduated from Art departments of Wenzhou Normal College (now Wenzhou University) in 1991. Now he is a senior industrial artist, master of Zhejiang Arts and Crafts.
             Wan was a student of Professor Wei Jingxian. He has been doing the research of Hair Embroidery Art over 20 years, and focuses on the project of “How to Represent Modern Portrait by Hair Embroidery”. Based on learning from traditional embroidery techniques, he is researching and creating new techniques. His papers and works have been published on the 'Cultural Studies”, “Zhejiang Arts and Crafts', 'Wenzhou Normal College,' 'Beauty and the times,' 'China Hair Embroidery Art,' 'Today's Technology' and other journals. He has produced thirty pieces of works of celebrities of Portrait Hair Embroidery which were displayed in Europe, Asia, America, and Australia which were highly praised. Some of his works are rewarded National Gold Prize in the arts and crafts exhibition, and the hair embroidery works of 'Mr. Zeng Xianzi' and 'Mr. Ma Lin' as the State gifts; His work of “Nepalese king and queen” as a gift to the King and Queen when General Secretary Jiang Zemin visited in Nepal. 'Portrait of former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder' was presented to Mr. Schroeder in the large-scale commonweal vocal concert of 'Ten Years Fa Pai in Dream China' of CCTV in 2007. In 2004 he went to France, Germany, Italy and other European countries for arts of observe and study. He performed the way of making hair Embroidery live in exhibition which was held by United Nations Headquarters in New York and Cohen University when he was invited to USA as one of member of Hair Embroidery Delegation in 2000.

Wan’s work of “The Young Marshal Zhang Xueliang”, which won Gold Prize in 2004 the Fifth China Arts and Crafts of Hangzhou West Lake Expo.
